Now it can certainly be one of the historical restaurants of the island of Capri. It is in fact in the far 1937 that, in Via Longo, not far from the Piazzetta, Tonino Arbace opened the Grottino. In more than 70 years this place has been able to conquer a high level clientele, including many prominent people, with an important acknowledgment: to see them in the place practically every year. The success of Grottino, in fact, continues today with Gianfranco Arbace, son of Tonino, thanks to the same secrets that have made him a renowned restaurant.
The exquisitely caprese environment of the Quattocentesca era with The Times "a Botta", continues to fascinate customers who like to have lunch or dinner in the classic "typical place" based on a simple cuisine, with a Mediterranean flavour, which includes Capri dishes and some Specialties such as the Scialatielli with zucchini and shrimp flowers, the stuffed endive or the "cooked" with seafood and shellfish, a speciality of Grottino. "“Evviva la 'cocotte'!”

Dopo una magnifica passeggiata che in una giornata stupenda ci ha portato dalla Tragara all'Arco Naturale, a picco sul mare tra boschi e in veduta ravvicinata dei Faraglioni, siamo tornati verso la Piazzetta. Poco prima di arrivarci abbiamo trovato il ristorante Al Grottino e ci è parso simpatico. Abbiamo pranzato ottimamente, in un ambiente simpatico e amichevole. Vorrei ricordare l'ottima pasta fatta in casa alla 'cocotte' ... ci hanno messo dei giganteschi bavaglini e, mentre nell'attesa sorseggiavamo un bel Fiano, è arrivata una grande padella coperta con la pasta ai frutti di mare che, dopo un po', ci è stata gentilmente posta nei nostri piatti ... il profumo e il sapore inenarrabili hanno fatto il resto! anzi, successivamente siamo riusciti anche anche a gustare una prelibata scarola con olive verdi, uva passa e pinoli ... la fine è stata devoluta all'ultimo assaggio di torta caprese!
Gustoso e ben dosato, il pranzo è stato più che gradito! il prezzo era adeguato alla situazione e all'isola di Capri che, per i miei gusti, è sempre un po' più cara.

Probabilmente il mio preferito. Situato in Via Longano 27, a due passi dalla Piazzetta, Il Grottino è uno dei ristoranti storici dell'isola. Numerosi sono i VIP che, da oltre 70 anni, riempiono la saletta di questo locale che, eppure, del tipico ritrovo mondano non ha nulla. Pochi coperti, una sala raccolta dai tenui colori pastello, un proprietario - Gianfranco Arbace - super cortese, che ti fa accomodare con gentilezza e simpatia, facendoti sentire subito a casa. E naturalmente i piatti: genuini, tradizionali per dawero, senza i fronzoli della cucina moderna. Da provare le cocotte di scialatielli al profumo di mare, i polipetti alla luciana, il pesce all'acqua pazza, il fritto di paranza... praticamente tutto il menù! Consiglio spassionato: per non macchiarti la camicia di lino di sugo, intingoli etc. chiedi un bel bavaglino; il Grottino sarà felice di fornirtelo. E fidati che serve.

We checked in and were off to explore, but didn’t last long because we were travel weary. We found a little restaurant tucked into an alleyway for dinner. Ristorante Al Grottino quickly became a favorite. The owner treated our kids like royalty and served us a family-style seafood pasta dish in a dutch oven. He brought us homemade gelato for dessert without us asking. This is one unique and beautiful characteristic of Italians; they love to serve, and they know what you want better than you do yourself. If you follow their lead and let go of your perceptions of what you think you should be experiencing, you will learn more about true Italy and the culture than you thought possible.
